This topic describes how two different types of subtitles (e.g. HoH and Translation) contained within a single Open Caption personality file can be transmitted to different output devices. The two types may have different languages.
The two types of subtitles are differentiated by use of the Forced flag. For example, the HoH subtitles would be normal (i.e. not forced) and the Translation subtitles would have the Forced flag set.
The Q-Live Gateway is able to filter subtitles based on the on/off state of the Forced flags. Therefore, you can transmit the file to a suitably configured device group and the Gateway will route the HoH subtitles to one device and the Translation subtitles to a second device.
You can choose to export just the (e.g.) HoH or Translation subtitles by using the filter on Forced option in the Compact View. In addition, you can specify an alternate language for the file that contains the forced subtitles.
Note that dual Open Caption output is only supported for Block transmission mode.
Configuring the Q-Live system for dual Open Caption output is done in three places:
In Q-News, the rundown paragraph filtering should be configured to set the appropriate text style to "Forced". This is optional and applies to iNEWS Newsroom Systems only. Refer to the Q-News User Guide for further details.
In the Q-Live client, configure the alternate language to use when exporting forced subtitles. This is optional and is only needed if you wish to export just the forced subtitles to another file format.
In the Q-Live Gateway, create a device group with two devices. Configure one device to accept "Forced" subtitles and the other to accept "Not Forced". Refer to the Q-Live Gateway User Guide for further details.
Use the following procedure to create and transmit dual Open Caption subtitles.
Open the N32 subtitle file intended for dual output. If the subtitles are being generated by an iNEWS Newsroom System, you will see one type set to "Forced" automatically by Q-News. If not, create the subtitles and set the appropriate ones as "Forced" by right-clicking on them and choosing Edit Properties... Forced On from the pop-up menu.
In the Live Toolbox pane, select the appropriate device group.
Go Live and On-Air. Cue out the subtitles. The "Forced" subtitles are sent to one output device and the "Not Forced" subtitles are sent to the other.
