This topic briefly explains what Q-News does and how it integrates with Q-Live for the preparation of a rundown.
Q-News is part of the Q-Live live network which includes the Q-Live File Service for multi-user N32 file management, Q-Live Gateway for managing output devices, Q-Live Story Save and Q-Live Clip Monitor.
As with the Q-Live services, Q-News is designed to be hosted on a Server and managed by an Administrator.
Q-News interfaces with the Newsroom system to mirror the rundown information created by the journalists.
For a full explanation of configuration and user instructions, see the Q-News User Guide.
Q-News uses the iNEWS FTP protocol (v2.8) for mirroring iNEWS rundown information. Q-News regularly polls the iNEWS server for rundown information and any Q-News compares each poll with the current information and passes any changes to the Q-Live.
Q-News uses the MOS protocol (v2.8) to connect to MOS based newsroom systems such as ENPS, Dalet, OpenMedia and DiNA. Newsroom information is 'pushed' to Q-News when there are any changes.
Q-News creates the N32 file using the rundown information from the newsroom system. The customer and programme templates can be set up in Q-News to create the correct settings including text splitting if required.
The N32 file represents the rundown structure in the Newsroom system with a single rundown/file name and separate Stories. Any changes in the newsroom system will be processed in Q-News and passed to Q-Live. Any changes can then be compared in Q-Live and either used or discarded.
Q-News has settings that affect the rundown display in Q-Live. These options can only be accessed from Q-News and will be applied to all rundowns and are for both iNEWS FTP and MOS connections.
Restrict users from changing the running order - ticking/enabling this option stops any movement of Stories within the rundown to avoid them being put out of order from the Newsroom system. In Q-Live and any options to move Stories are greyed out.
Use clip name as the story name (iNews only) - ticking/enabling this option changes the Story name in Q-Live to that of the VID-ID in iNEWS.
Make story names lower case - ticking/enabling this option changes all the Story names to lower case in Q-Live regardless of how they are created in the Newsroom system.
Mark Stories as No Status in Q-Live - ticking/enabling this option makes the Story status in Q-Live No Status when the N32 rundown file is first created by Q-News.
There are also settings in Q-Live to automatically create a new N32 rundown file at a specific point each day for repeated rundowns. In this situation the N32 rundown file will have a date added to the title.
