BroadStream announces new features for OASYS Integrated Playout

Duluth, GA USA – 26 April 2023 – BroadStream, the Integrated Playout and subtitling specialists, announce new features that have been added to their OASYS Integrated Playout solution.

OASYS is now offered as a compressed end-to-end IP solution (OASYS IP) with the same look and feel as the SDI platform. Customers looking to move from SDI to IP will not need new training and can easily update their current system. A hybrid version is also available to support stations that are interested in a SDI and IP combined solution.

Alongside this new OASYS IP system comes new features that have been created to improve the functionality of the software as well as further improve the user’s workflow. A few of these new features include loudness normalization, asset kill dates, improved graphics, improved support for soft segmentation, new Dolby D and Dolby E support, audio upmix, improved SCTE-35 triggers, and automatic aspect ratio control.

Loudness normalization can now be applied on OASYS on-the-fly for both live and file-based playout (supports EBU R128 and ATSC A/85 including Dolby Dial norm). This saves the cost of a separate loudness normalisation device and provides a solution to regulatory concerns that are common in many markets.

The new kill date feature in OASYS Media Library ensures that programs are not transmitted after their licensed window and that commercials do not air after the campaign has expired.

To improve channel branding, OASYS has new graphics functions including masking, scaling and stretch effects and all graphics changes can now be previewed live.
New improved support for soft segmentation means that users can now use a simple cue sheet as an EDL against longform assets. The same asset can be played out on different channels or schedule slots with different ad-break patterns without the effort of re-working the asset.

BroadStream’s OASYS also now supports pass-through and encode of Dolby D into IP outputs and decode and pass-through of Dolby E for SDI and IP outputs. To improve the viewer’s listening experience further, OASYS can now also generate a 5:1 surround sound mix from a regular stereo soundtrack. To allow for separate targeting of downstream events, OASYS can also embed multiple metadata items in each SCTE-35 packet.

OASYS playout can now dynamically set the aspect ratio based on AFD information in the ancillary data of an asset or sidecar XML, saving users the time needed to do this manually and avoiding the risk of getting it wrong.
